Can we just fast-forward to the conference finals, please?
There have been a few decent matchups, with the Bulls leading the top-seeded Celtics and the Pacers making their games interesting, but doesn’t this all feel like some foregone conclusion? Give me Golden State vs. San Antonio best-of-15 series in the West, and Cleveland/Washington in the East; forget the rest. The Bucks are actually pretty fun to watch, though!
The Stanley Cup Playoffs are the best, plain and simple. Four overtime games featuring the best teams and players in the world on a casual Tuesday night in April; you can’t beat that!
How about Nashville? As I type this, the Predators are 12 minutes away from taking out Chicago; in four games! That is truly incredible. The Hawks were the popular pick to win the Cup, along with Washington, for almost everyone (including myself) entering the playoffs. Speaking of Washington, the Caps are getting all they can handle from a young, talented Toronto team. Game 5 in Washington on Friday night will decide this series. I still like the Capitals in this series, but even if they find a way to get rid of the pesky Leafs, a rolling Pittsburgh squad waits in round-two. The Penguins dominate the Capitals in the postseason, and the Toronto series will have done Washington no favors in terms of confidence. The Penguins looked scary good in their dismantling of a very good Blue Jackets team in round-one, and now have some time to possibly get Carl Hagelin and Chris Kunitz closer to a return.
EDIT: Nashville just scored to go up 2-0 on Chicago in the 3rd…. Wow!
EDIT #2: 3-0 Preds now. Game. Blouses. Truly shocking upset, especially the fashion in which it happened.
NFL Schedule Release
The NFL schedule was released Thursday evening, which means that it’s time for everyone to begin their way-too-early analysis for the season. I am just excited for the NFL Draft next weekend, where the Browns are almost guaranteed to do something totally hilarious with the #1 pick, effectively ruining their franchise for another 20 years.
So everyone knows that I was joking about the Pirates winning the World Series, right?
The season could not have started any worse in Pittsburgh. Not only is Jung Ho Kang stuck in purgatory with his legal and visa dealings, but gold-glover Starling Marte was just banned 80 games for PED’s. Even if the team finds a way to make the postseason, Marte will be ineligible to play, based on the new collective bargaining agreement. Tough brakes for a franchise that can’t afford anything but good luck in order to succeed in their market.
What to Watch this Weekend
Playoffs, playoffs, and more playoffs. Saturday is going to be awesome! Three Stanley Cup Playoff games beginning at 3 PM and ending at 1 AM, along with NBA Playoff games all day as well! If you haven’t had a chance to watch Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid play yet, take a quick glance up at the TV while you’re at the bar. Oilers/Sharks starts at 10:30 PM that evening, along with the Warriors/Trail Blazers game; toss some money on the game and enjoy the perfect Saturday night. Cheers!
